Yakima HighRoad Bike Rack

Just when we thought it couldn't get better than the best selling Yakima FrontLoader, it does. Yakima have improved an already brilliant design with the new HighRoad, the highly anticipated sequel to the FrontLoader.

The new design is much sleeker and better looking than the FrontLoader. Featuring an aerodynamic front which reduces wind noise, plus a fully integrated TorqueRight knob, overall it looks and feels like a better design. It comes in a little more expensive than the FrontLoader, but we think the small increase in price is warranted by the improved design.

The HighRoad features one of the easiest bike mounting systems we've seen. Like the FrontLoader, you can mount your bike upright, without the need for wheel removal, and the TorqueRight tightening knob allows ultra secure and easy loading of almost all bike types. It now has an included TailWhip cable lock which can be key matched to your existing locks as an extra, plus a lock loop to allow you to use your existing bike lock for additional peace of mind. The SKS Lock Core 2 Pack are included with this product.

The beauty of this design lies in its ability to secure the bike by the wheels only, and the fact that the mount will hold it in place for you while you manoeuvre, and lock the bike in place. This means that you will never have to worry about marking your frame, and loading is an easy one person job.

The new design allows a broader range of wheel widths to fit the mount, from only 23mm up to 82.55mm wide wheels will fit with no worries. It will accommodate wheel bases of up to about 1235mm maximum. One thing to note however, is that the new design will fit from 26 to 29 inch diameter wheels, while the FrontLoader will fit smaller wheeled bikes, with wheel diameters ranging from 20 to 29 inches. So if you are wanting to transport kid's bikes you should look to the older FrontLoader for a solution. The reason that Yakima have done this is to simplify the design, with one less adjustable and therefore wearing part, and to cater for the majority of users.

The HighRoad also features a lower profile tray than the FrontLoader to further minimize interference with high lift hatches, for improved aerodynamics, and further wind noise reduction.

Installing the new HighRoad is an easy 5 minute job with no tools needed, the universal mounting hardware will fit most roofrack manufacturer's designs. It also now has the added ability to fit T-slot crossbars with the addition of a Smart T-Slot kit. Please refer to the instructions below for more details about installation.

Another great solution from Yakima, which in our opinion is one of the very best currently available for bike transport.

I used the High Road for the first time yesterday form my time trial bike and it did a great job . As the bike has an oversized down tube I needed a rack that held the front wheel.

The wheel straps work well and are better than the clamps on other brands. The rack is easy to get on and off and the bikes load easily. I use it around town as well as on Interstate trips.
