We get asked a lot about the attributes of the different shaped bars available from Thule and Whispbar and which is best.
We usually advise that it really depends on what you’re planning to carry, what car it is and personal preference.
Please have a look at the brief description of each below and if you still have questions please don’t hesitate to call us on;

Thule WingBar Edge system.
The sleekest, sportiest looking system with no cross bar overhanging on the ends. The shorter bar means approximately 30cm less load area than equivalent systems so if you’re planning on a roof box and bikes or roof box and kayaks then you’re better going with one of the other systems below. Maximum load on Edge systems is 75kg but may be less on your vehicle, please refer to the Roof Rack Guide on our website for details of your particular vehicle. Available in black or silver.
Thule WingBar Evo
The wing bar Evo uses the same super quiet profile as the Edge system but with a longer bar that overhangs the footpack on each side. This system has the benefit of maximum load area coupled with extremely low wind noise at highway speeds. This is the system to use when carrying multiple accessories on your roof. Maximum load on Wing Bar Evo systems is 100kg but may be less on your vehicle, please refer to the Roof Rack Guide on our website for details of your particular vehicle. Available in black or silver.
Old school. The most durable bar thanks to it’s outer hard casing but also the noisiest bar in the Thule range. Generally not recommended unless using with a roof basket, you spend your day carrying ladders or if wind noise at just about any speed doesn’t bother you. Maximum load on Aero Bar systems is 100kg but may be less on your vehicle, please refer to the Roof Rack Guide on our website for details of your particular vehicle. Available in black only.
Whispbar Through Bars
Whispbar claim to have the world's quietest bar with the least amount of drag, they are also the most adaptable between makes of cars. They are of a fantastic quality and come with a lifetime warranty. The extra load area of this style means these are the choice if you want to carry multiple items such as a roof box and a bike or a kayak and bikes.
Whispbar Flush Bars
As the name suggests these have a 'flush' finish meaning there is no overhang out the ends. Whispbar racks do sit a little lower on the car so if you're after a more 'sporty' look then these are the ones to go for.
As with all racks, you're going to need to be aware of your sunroof. On some vehicles there will not be the clearance needed to open the sunroof. Some evehicles even have a sensor which overrides the sunroof open button when racks are fitted. Some roofs will open with roof racks fitted but some accessories such as roof boxes may contact the sunroof.
