If you need access to the boot, don’t want to unload all the bikes and are working to a budget the Thule Vertex SwingAway is the answer. The curved arms and the taller mast height of this carrier means the bikes sit slightly higher off the ground.
Unlike the Apex, this carrier is not tool free fitting and probably would not suit a car where all that is visible out of the rear bumper is the square hole of the receiver (like some Subarus Outbacks and Libertys). It’s necessary to use the supplied tool to insert and tighten the bolt into the side of the receiver.
Hideaway integrated cable locks bikes to carrier, add the STL2 Snug Tite Hitch Lock to lock the carrier into the receiver. We always recommend the use of the Thule LightBoard 976

I love this bike carrier!
I don't have to take the bikes off to get into the back of my wagon which I had to with my old rack which was a real pain.
I bought the locking pin thingy (STL?) at the same time and now I just leave this rack on my car all the time.
My wife thinks it's good too. Happy wife, happy life!
